Westmanstown Gaels U8's V St Annes Bohernabreena Sat June 19
The U8's played their final match before the summer break against St Annes in Bohernabreena on a very sunny morning last Saturday. The two Gaels sides put in great performances against a young side and came away with a good win. The pre match talk was about enjoying themselves and using everything they learned in training and the 13 matches they had played. Again all areas impressed coaches and parents from goalkeepers to defense to attack and taking their scores.
We will look forward to the summer break and will resume some time in August to work on other areas of the game with the U9 rules coming in for this team in January. Thanks to everyone who has supported and helped out so far this season..
U8 Westmanstown Gaels v Lucan Sarsfields Saturday 23rd May The U8’s took to the road this morning and took on our neighbours Lucan Sarsfields in what proved to be our best performance so far as a team. One of the players commented that it was 24 degrees on the pitch and the Gaels certainly warmed to this challenge from a very good Lucan side. Four matches were played and the Gaels came out on top on all games. It was very much an entire team effort from goalkeepers to the defence guarding their zone, midfielders dropping back and working the ball out to the forwards who took some fantastic scores. What impressed most was their hunger to get the ball back and to work another score. There was a great sense of team spirit displayed this morning. The players really looked like they were enjoying their football. Long may it last!! Thanks to all the parents for great support again.
Match reports for U8's 8th May and 12th May
The U8's had a busy week last week by taking on Kilmacud Crokes on Saturday morning and the our neighbours from Dunboyne on Wednesday evening. Kilmacud as always provided a stern challenge and tested the Gaels in all matches. A bit of a slow start for Westmanstown saw Crokes taking the first two games narrowly and the remaining games saw the Gaels playing with a lot of determination and nearly came out on top but for a couple of late scores to Kilmacud saw a drawn match and another narrow loss. On Wednesday evening we took on the might of our neighbours Dunboyne in a friendly challenge match. Both teams fielded a mix of U7's and U8's for the first match and then were split into U7's and U8's for the second match. This proved to be a very enjoyable game for the players. The younger players gaining experience of a match for the first time and the U8's gave a good account of themselves in the second match to come out on top. Thanks to all for arranging the match a hopefully we will do it again soon.
U8 Blitz Westmanstown April 24th 2010
Westmanstown Gaels hosted an Under 8 blitz last Saturday and welcomed St Patricks Palmerstown, Stars of Erin and Round Towers in what proved to be a very enjoyable day for players, mentors and supporters. The sun shown for the duration of the tournament and grounds were in fantastic condition. This was also commented on by visiting mentors and parents.
Each club fielded two teams which made life a little easier for organising the tournament. There were four pitches set up which meant each team was playing and there was no hanging around!! Westmanstown first took on the might of Stars of Erin. In two very evenly contested matches Westmanstown just came in ahead at the finishing line. Next up for Westmanstown were our neighbours St Patricks Palmerstown. Westmanstown proved a little too strong for a young St Pats side. Last up for Westmanstown was Round Towers. After a tough match two weeks ago the Gaels put in a mighty effort this time and came out on top in the two matches. This Under 8 side is improving in every match and every training session. Again the effort to defend and win ball back was very impressive. The ability to create and take scores is also an area that is really improving. There is a great team spirit and this team has great potential for the future. Thanks to everyone for helping make the event a great success. Thanks to the players for putting in a huge effort and again thanks to all our supporters..
U/8s Westmanstown v Round Towers April 2010
The Westmanstown U8's took to the road again on Saturday last. This time it was Round Towers in Monastery Road on a hot and sunny morning. Despite missing a few players we fielded two teams which gave a very good account of themselves. The first two games saw the Gaels take a bit of time to settle down but they got into stride and were narrowly beaten. The second half saw a good win and another narrow loss. Overall another very good performance by Westmanstown who are showing improvement in different areas of play as the season goes on. Some of the tackling and general defending was superb. Again some great scores were taken also. Well done to all the 15 who played on Saturday. Thanks to all the parents for the great support also.
U/8s Westmanstown v Kilmacud Crokes 20 March 2010
Westmanstown Gaels U8’s played Kilmacud Crokes last Saturday on our home turf. Four matches were played and the Gaels managed a very good win in one of the matches but the firing power of Kilmacud saw them run out winners in the other three games. Again the effort by the Gaels could not be faulted as a strong defence and 100% commitment saw them contain Crokes for long periods of the matches. Our GPO Michael Ahern was also very impressed. We play another Kilmacud side at home in a few weeks time so we will have another go then!! Thanks to all the players that lined out and gave it their all. Thanks also to all the support on the sidelines from our loyal fanbase!!
U/8s Westmanstown v Templeogue Synge Street
The U8’s kept up their good results on the road with a win over a very good Templeogue Synge Street side in the VEC grounds in Terenure. Out of the four matches played Westmanstown Gaels won three and narrowly lost the fourth. The coaches and parents were very impressed with the work rate of the Westmanstown players and their willingness to defend as a group and attack as a group and to take their scores. In one of the matches Westmanstown were down by six points at half time but after a great second half display they came out on top with a few points to spare. Well done to all of the 18 players that lined out for Westmanstown on Saturday. Thanks also to all the parents who provided great support on the sidelines. |
