WMT U11 travelled to Good Counsel for their first game this season for what they knew was going to be a physical game.  A very small pitch and goals created concerns for the U11 who like to play long moving balls, but that’s the way it goes on away games.  The game was played throughout the 50 minutes on level scores until in the final minute WMT managed to see off three attempts on goal.  Unfortunately the fourth attempt was delivered into the back of the net, how it got through was unlucky on our part but as always better to learn lessons rather than presume we know it all. As the ball was picked from the back of the net the referee’s whistle blew time up!  The game finished with Good Counsel 1 goal up on WMT score.  Our team battled hard and I use the word battle as opposed to played.  Well done all on our fist game of the season.  Keith Corrigan

WMT U11 travelled outside of Dublin to the fabulous grounds at Bray Emmets.  Huge development is taking place there and like wise in their large player numbers.  Our players had taken a lot after last weeks narrow defeat and overall had more ball possession and movement.  Two easy goals saw us play catch up as this game was score for score and the U11 did just that ending up in a draw 3 -1- to 3-10 until the referee called the final score with Bray Emmets 1 goal up!  “Should have gone to spec savers” was one comment after the game by a young observer.  However it was a brilliant display of true football at this age level with excellent and continuous movement of ball and a fast and determined pace.  P Brogan (or should I say J Smith) left early  as he felt his green coat clashed with Bray Emmets jerseys and returned in Halloween costume looking more like Herman Munster (form the film The Munsters).  Well done U11 – it is definitely coming together for those that attend training and a hunger for real football is now growing.  Keith Corrigan

WMT U11 hosted Wanderers from Ballyboden at home this weekend.  They had also lost to Good Counsel and Bray Emmets.  A panel of 15 provided a very strong display of football for WMT on home ground and great excitement for those that came to support our U11.  I suppose one would say after two slight defeats the U11 had their own hunger to do well again.  The game started WMT way and they took full command of the ball holding possession and scoring at every opportunity.  The defence were brilliant and left and left very little opportunity for Wanderers to make any mark on the game.  Midfield ensured balls were gathered and supplied to the forwards who converted them with confidence.  The game ended up 12-10 to 3-2 in WMT favour.  Both teams congratulated each other at the end with our team more interested in getting the bag of sweets and oranges off the coaches than shouting about a win – great to see level heads on such young players.  Well done U11 – training is the key, practice at home is vital.

On Saturday the U11 travelled to Ballinteer St Johns for their final grading game where they played on the new all weather pitch at Broadford School  WMT started out slow enough at the start but really never received any threat from Ballinteer.  Half time came eventually and some home truths from the manager saw a livelier second half ending the game WMT 6-14 to Ballinteer 1-0.  It was an easy win against a less competitive side and we are now hopeful of stronger opposition within the new league in order to maintain our level of play on the pitch.  A lot of players were witnessed at the after match team talk raising their hands.  The question was asked by the Manager “who was in bed after 10am on Friday”.  PARENTS take note – we would encourage an early night on Fridays before a game as all matches from here on in will need to be contested to our teams/players best ability.  Well done to all players and THANKYOU to those parents who continue to support the U11 both at home and away.
