Sat 8 May WestmansU9s [15] away to Geraldine Morans [23] Bray.
A bright but windy day saw our kids away to Morans in Bray. Despite going down, it was a great match to watch. When you watch a team slowly but surely grow into themselves, it’s a pure joy to watch. The kids started well, pushing back Morans attacks to beyond the midfield, despite the wind in their faces. The goal kicks are coming on well, with some of the kids really getting to grips with the idea, delivering some lovely kicks and working well to pick out players in space. The defenders in both halves were tackling like demons, pouncing on everything, with at least 3 points from blocks.
This was matched by solid work from midfield and the forwards, pushing hard to grab every ball and get up forward but it just wasn't to be! We tried to ensure the kids had more time to settle into their positions and it seems to be working with solid working from all the kids. It was great to watch the sheer effort from them despite the stiff opposition. Toward the end, you could see the kids were ready to drop. The heads weren't too down though as they seemed to be happy with their game.
We still have a long way to go but the kids themselves are starting to see what they have to do. Again, it is a pleasure to watch a team start to get an idea of what they could do!
Westmanstown 20 v. Ballinteer 32 Saturday 24 April 2010
On a very warm Saturday Ballinteer came over to us and gave us a great, hard game. Initially we held our own with, some great work done in defence and goal but by the end of the first half , we had started to loose our shape and Ballinteer punished us hard. The team started the 2nd half well and pushed into Ballinteer's half but the heat started to take its toll and they came back again. Overall our team worked very hard, with some brilliant performances. Well done.
Match Report WestmansU9s away to Ballyfermot DLS, Sat 10 Apr 2010A beautiful morning for a great match, Westmanstown got stuck in straight away and had most of the possession for the first half, hold their shape well. We got a couple of scores and held our own with great blocking and consistent tackling. Unfortunately a lapse in concentration at the end of the first half allowed Ballyfermot back into contention. Westmanstown charged out in the second half and played very well pushing Ballyfermot to dig deep. But the earlier strenuous efforts had a price and we flagged toward the end of the second half with Ballyfermot coming back strongly. In the end, we went down 25 to 32, but the kids had a great match and weren't too down about it. The parents and coaches were delighted after being treated to a great match, happy exhausted kids who won 8 points from blocks alone, against a good hard opposition.
