2010 Season
WMT U10’s hosted Geraldine Moran’s at home for their last game before the Summer break. Due to illness Geraldine Moran’s could only mustered 9 players, so it wasn’t possible to play the normal 2 games. A Westmanstown turned out a panel of 20 provided an excellent and committed display on a sunny Saturday morning and great excitement for the large crowd right to the very end. The game started with both Westmanstown and Geraldine Moran’s on the mark early. With Westmanstown taking points from their chances they moved into an early lead, but both teams were creating chances in a fast moving game. As the 1st half progressed Westmanstown introduced a number of subs and continued to edge the game on the scoreboard but only held a narrow 1 score lead at half-time. After the re-start Geraldine Moran’s started quickly and converted a number of chances into scores in quick succession to edge into a lead. After re-grouping the team lifted their performance once more, to create a number of scoring chances through a direct attacking style. Lead by a number of stand-up player performances the whole team fought hard from defence all the way forward with a large number of players taking chances as they came along. As a result of everyone’s effort and determination the Geraldine Moran’s lead was cut back slowly. As the game progressed to a conclusion the frantic pace continued, Westmanstown’s continual pressure created a number of frees and side line balls. Fine scores from both sideline balls and distance shots started to turn the game in favour of the home team again. In the end these well taken scores kept the scoreboard ticking over and ensured narrow a cushion and at the final whistle which saw Westmanstown Gaels come out as the victors by 54 to 47 points. After the final whistle both teams congratulated each other after a fine display of football and sportmanship. Well done to everyone !!!! WMT U10 hosted Kilmacud Crokes at home for their 1st game after Easter. As Kilmacud only mustered 14 players, it wasn’t possible to play 2 games. A WMT panel of 17 provided a committed display on a sunny Saturday morning and great excitement for those that came to support our U10’s. The game started with Kilmacud on the mark and thereby putting the home team under pressure. As a result they moved into an early lead. As the 1st half progressed WMT came more into the game but struggled to turn chances into scores and thereby close the lead that Kilmacud had established early on. After half-time WMT started to take more of their chances while restricting Kilmacud’s attack through tighter marking. A number of players stood-up and delivered scores for the team, and as a result WMT out-scored Kilmacud by nearly 2:1 in the 2nd half. As the game progressed WMT’s pressure and scoring started to turn the game in their favour, but a couple of late scores gave Kilmacud a cushion once again. At the final whistle Kilmacud were the victors by just 3 scores. Both teams congratulated each other after a fine display of football. Well done everyone!

WMT U10 travelled to Bohernabreena to play St Anne’s for their first game this season. A panel of 18 players allowed two full 9-a-side teams to be fielded. 2 good pitches allowed for constructive games. WMT Blue team played very well and created numerous chances but trailed at half-time. The Red team suffered at the hands of a very strong opposition. In the 2nd half Blue team started to covert chances into scores and eased into the lead. At fulltime they found themselves in the lead by 4 scores. The Red team battled strongly in the 2nd half but couldn’t over come their opponents. When the scores of both games were combined and St Anne’s came out as overall winners on the day. Overall our teams battled hard and demonstrated very good individual skills. Well done all on our first game of the season. WMT U11 hosted Kilmacud Crokes at home this for their 2nd match. As Kilmacud only mustered 14 players, it wasn’t possible to play 2 games. A WMT panel of 20 provided a very strong display of football for WMT on home ground and great excitement for those that came to support our U10’s. The game started WMT’s way and they took full command of the ball holding possession and scoring. The defence played well and left very little opportunity for Kilmacud. As the game progressed Kilmacud’s pressure and match acumen started to turn the game in their favour. At the final whistle Kilmacud was the victor. Both teams congratulated each other at the end. Well done U10 – training is the key, practice at home is vital.
WMT U10 travelled to Cornelscourt to play Geraldine Moran’s for their 3rd game this season. A panel of 18 players allowed two full 9-a-side teams to be fielded. WMT Blue team played very well and created numerous chances but trailed at half-time. The Red team suffered at the hands of a very effective opposition. In the 2nd half Blue team continued to battle but playing into a strong wind started to take a toll on the team and the score line. At fulltime they found themselves in arrears by a single score. The Red team despite battling strongly in the 2nd half but couldn’t over come their opponents on an uphill pitch. When the scores of both games were combined and Geraldine Moran’s came out as overall winners on the day. Overall our teams demonstrated very good individual skills. Well done all for turning out for this away game.
WMT U10 travelled to Ballinteer to play St. John’s for their 4th game this season. A panel of just 14 players travelled allowing two full 7-a-side teams to be fielded. WMT Blue team played very well and created numerous chances and initially lead they way but trailed by half-time. The Red team struggled at the hands of a strong and fluid opposition. In the 2nd half Blue team continued to battle away but struggled to control their opponents and this took a toll on the team and the scoreboard. At fulltime they found themselves in arrears. The Red team continued to battle away in the 2nd half but couldn’t get a grip on their opponents. When the scores of both games were combined and St Johns finished as convincing winners.
