Support our Marathon Man - James

James is one of the u8s coaches. For reasons best known to himself, he is planning to run in the Dublin Marathon in October 2010. James has run the marathon on two previous occasions. This year, he will represent Westmanstown Gaels and run on behalf of Crumlin Children's Hospital.

Marathon Update.

August 2010

Bad news from James

He reports "Setback!! I've run into a bit of a snag.Literally! I went over on my ankle running last week and have aggravated an old injury. I've missed out on a fair bit of training. I will have to see how this week goes as September is when the miles clock up!" Fingers crossed that he recovers quickly.

July 2010

James says "I was away for the majority of July so am only getting things back on track!!"  Mmm. Think of the children James, think of the children!

June 2010

18 weeks to go so the training programme has kicked off. Just another 487.2 miles to go and its all over!! I will just have think of it week by week as it is a bit daunting looking at it all together. This weeks training totals 19 miles so that doesn't seem so bad. The weather is a bit of a factor at the moment as I cant remember running in heat like this before. Its not a bad complaint though.

It was good to hear the committee at Westmanstown Gaels have selected Crumlin Children's Hospital  as the charity I will be running for. It provides the motivation to get out training as it is a very worthy cause. Anyway I will check in again in a few weeks with hopefully a progress report!

The First steps  May 2010

Training at the moment is quite slow and will increase over the next few weeks. It is an 18 week training schedule I am doing so I am due to kick it off around the second week of June. At the moment I am just trying to keep the legs moving so I will be in a position to start the training. It will then be four runs a week. Two short, one medium and then a long one at the weekends. It is a gradual increase over the 18 weeks. Short runs never go over 5 miles, medium ones 8 miles and the long runs will gradually rise to 20 miles. Around the beginning of October the distances taper off and then you tick over for a few weeks before the race itself. The idea being you are rested and ready for the full distance.. That is the plan anyway!! I am not trying to beat any records. Maybe if I could beat last year's time 4 hours 20 something minutes I would be happy.
